A new addition with a strong connection to the old

This project involved the design of a contemporary addition to an existing heritage home in Millthorpe.

The challenge was to create a generous new living environment that respected the character of the original house while establishing a clear identity of its own. The addition incorporates an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area alongside a pantry, master suite and office.

A carefully selected black and white exterior palette creates a strong yet elegant contrast with the heritage structure, while handmade and traditionally patterned tiles bring warmth and character to the interior. Exposed timber rafters add another layer of texture and help create a natural connection between the old and new parts of the home.

The result is a contemporary addition that feels considered in its own right while remaining sympathetic to the original architecture.
