A contemporary sports club inspired by the origins of squash

This project involved the renovation of a large squash club in Saint Petersburg, with the entire interior concept inspired by the origins and heritage of squash.

The design draws on the sport’s traditional English character, reinterpreting it through a contemporary club environment. Retro-style wall murals and graphic elements reference the history of the sport, while classic Chesterfield-style seating and rich walnut joinery bring warmth, character and a distinctly old-English feel to the social spaces.

The material palette combines these traditional references with the clean, functional character required of a modern sports facility. The result is an interior that feels energetic and contemporary while retaining a strong connection to the heritage of squash.

Alongside the courts, the club incorporates a functional training area, sports bar and golf centre, creating a broader destination for sport, relaxation and socialising.
